I am a firm believer in teaching children that the brain grows with knowledge. Even in first grade we talk about meta-cognition. The thinking about the thinking is not just for staying focused it is to train the brain to be aware of all things and connections while learning. My first graders know that their brains have changed from the first day to the last day of the school year. We just had a conversation about how they have the capacity to read and understand more, apply math more easily and think more deeply about learning. Practice makes perfect…especially in learning.
